- What about your debts – for example, credit cards, hire purchases or bank loans?
- Who’d look after the children – and could you afford their care?
- How long would it be before the money ran out?
Ability to pay your mortgage
- Could you pay the mortgage as well as insurance, rates and other housing costs – and for how long?
- If you or the bank forced a sale, would you get enough to pay back the mortgage?
- Where would you and your family live?
Ability to pay medical costs
- If you needed specialist care, could you afford to pay for it?
- While you’re incapacitated, who would take care of your family – both financially and physically?
- How would you pay for ongoing medical care or rehabilitation?
Ability to look after your family
- If you died, how would your family continue to live on just one, or possibly no income?
- Would they be able to repay your debts and still afford their living costs?
- How would they cover your funeral costs?
