AIA inspired New Zealand primary school children to get active and healthy in a fun way with the AIA Healthy Kids Challenge in 2016.
15,000 children from 499 classes at 110 primary schools across New Zealand participated in the challenge.
The challenge was a five week programme that took children on a fun virtual journey around the world, measuring their steps along the way.
Children were motivated to complete their journey by sporting legends Gemma Flynn, Cory Jane and Tom Abercrombie.
The challenge was not just limited to children. Over 1,000 teachers and more than 2,000 parents supported their children by also taking the challenge. Each time the classes completed a country leg and entered the draw to receive prizes for their school.
$20,000 worth of sports grants and 50 Huawei tablets were given as prizes to primary schools across New Zealand.
The feedback from schools and parents was overwhelming. AIA were flooded with messages of thanks for creating a healthy and fun programme.
The programme has since been re-run in 2018 as New Zealand's Healthiest Schools Challenge.
