AIA NZ welcomes new Chief Financial Officer

AIA NZ is pleased to announce the appointment of Shaun Baird as its new Chief Financial Officer. Shaun has been appointed to this role following the retirement of AIA’s long-serving Chief Financial Officer, Linda Page.

Shaun Baird joined AIA NZ (then Sovereign) in 2016 and has held a number of senior positions during that time, including Head of Finance Business Partnering, Head of Financial Control, and Head of Strategy.

Most recently, Shaun served as Project Lead for the implementation of IFRS17, a significant project that transitioned AIA NZ’s business to this international insurance and financial accounting standards.

Prior to joining the business, Shaun gained experience in senior finance and commercial roles across banking and telecommunications. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Graduate Diploma in Commerce from the University of Auckland.

AIA NZ CEO Nick Stanhope welcomed Shaun to the Executive team, saying “I’m really pleased to see Shaun step up into this critical role for the organisation. It’s another great example of our commitment to developing and promoting internal talent.”

Nick added, “Shaun has made a big impact in his time at AIA. He’ll bring great knowledge of our business and experience to the CFO role and to his Finance team.”

Shaun says, “I’m really excited to lead our Finance team and proud of the work we do to protect our business and enable us to deliver on our purpose for our customers. It’s a great honour to take the reins from Linda and step into this role.”

Linda Page has contributed significantly to the insurance and financial services industry in NZ during her 40-year career. She joined AIA NZ (then Sovereign) in 2004 and took her first executive role in 2012 as Chief Financial Officer, before moving into a Chief Performance Officer role and then Chief Projects Actuary, before returning to the Chief Financial Officer role in 2018.

Nick says, “Linda’s contribution to the success of our organisation cannot be understated. She has been a valuable member of the AIA NZ family and her leadership, service, and guidance will be missed by us all. We wish her all the best for her future”.
