AIA NZ has today launched its 2024 Sustainability Report: Sustaining Healthier, Longer, Better, Lives
Leading life insurer, AIA NZ, is driving real change for a healthier, more sustainable Aotearoa New Zealand. Its newly released 2024 Sustainability Report, Sustaining Healthier, Longer Better Lives, highlights the meaningful progress the organisation is making through long-term action and purpose-driven leadership.
The report outlines the steps AIA NZ is taking to deliver on this purpose, structured around five ESG strategic pillars: Health & Wellbeing, Sustainable Investment, Sustainable Operations, People & Culture and Effective Governance.
The key highlights of the 2024 Sustainability Report include:
AIA NZ is committed to a sustainable future. This commitment aligns with AIA Group’s broader sustainability strategy, which includes a target to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. AIA Group has also adopted the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to guide the setting of science-based emissions reduction goals, providing a framework that informs AIA NZ’s local actions.
Nick Stanhope, AIA NZ CEO, says it's encouraging to see meaningful progress across a wide range of focus areas over the past year.
“As the largest life insurance company in Aotearoa New Zealand, we recognise the weight of our brand promise to help New Zealanders live Healthier, Longer, Better Lives. We’re proud of the strides we’ve made on our journey to Net Zero, but we also know there’s more work ahead to meet the ambitious goals we’ve set across our ESG pillars,” says Nick.
In 2024, AIA NZ protected more than 797,000 New Zealanders. The year also marked the fifth anniversary of AIA Vitality, which now supports over 75,000 members with tools and incentives to live healthier lives.
Since its launch in 2019, AIA Vitality members in New Zealand have walked over 100 billion steps – the equivalent of walking the Te Araroa Trail approximately 27,000 times. On average, members complete at least one health and wellbeing assessment in the app every 15 minutes, showing strong and consistent engagement with their health.
The 2024 Sustainability Report highlights AIA NZ’s commitment to lead the insurance industry whilst safeguarding the environment and health of New Zealand.
“At AIA NZ we aspire for Aotearoa New Zealand to be one of the healthiest and best protected nations in the world. Over the past year we have continued to make progress in building a more sustainable and equitable environment for New Zealanders – here and now, and for many years to come.
“We constantly seek to operate to the highest standards of business practices, whilst delivering long-term sustainable value for our customers, shareholders, employees, partners and communities. While there is more to be done, we are proud of what we were able to achieve in 2024,” Nick concludes.
