AIA NZ reports progress on sustainability, driven by operations and digital transformation

Leading life insurer AIA NZ is continuing to advance a more sustainable future, with its newly released 2025 Sustainability Report, Sustaining Healthier, Longer Better Lives, highlighting the practical steps and measurable progress delivered across the organisation.

The report outlines the steps AIA NZ is taking to deliver on this purpose, structured around five sustainability pillars: Health & Wellbeing, Sustainable Investment, Sustainable Operations, People & Culture and Effective Governance.

Key milestones in 2025 include the completion of AIA NZ’s refurbished Auckland head office, AIA House, and the acceleration of its digitisation programme, including Project Forest, which reduces reliance on paper-based communications and enhances the customer experience.

Nick Stanhope, AIA NZ CEO, says it’s encouraging to see progress across a number of priority areas over the past year.

“In 2025, we made headway across our sustainability priorities – from returning to a transformed AIA House that supports new ways of working, to accelerating digital initiatives that are reducing our environmental impact and improving the experience for our customers.”

The completion of AIA House marks a significant milestone, creating a more flexible and collaborative workplace that supports employee wellbeing, reduces emissions by around 70% and cuts AIA NZ’s physical footprint by 41%. Alongside this, Project Forest has delivered a 75% reduction in paper and postage, showing how digital transformation can deliver both environmental and operational gains.

Other key highlights of the 2025 Sustainability Report include:

• Paid $790.3 million in claims, accepting 91% of all claims received¹
• Grew AIA Vitality membership to more than 78,000 members
• Released the second AIA NZ Claims Compass, focused on mental health insights
• Continued progress in sustainable investment, including further integration of ESG factors into investment processes
• Named a finalist in the FSC Awards 2025 and Deloitte Top 200 Awards for Diversity & Inclusion Leadership.

AIA NZ is committed to a sustainable future. This commitment aligns with AIA Group’s broader sustainability strategy, including its ambition to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and the use of science-based targets to guide emissions reduction.

In 2025, AIA NZ continued to protect almost 790,000 New Zealanders, while investing in initiatives that improve access to care, support better health outcomes and strengthen the sustainability of our business.
